In a new directive the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) has said that students of class 10th and 11th must qualify all the five subjects in their annual and bi-annual examination to continue with their further studies. Until now the class 12th students would be given admission only in next class if they had qualified any four out of five subjects in the exams.

The students of class 11th will however appear for the first time in BOSE exams. Till now the Term I and II exams for the students were conducted at the school level.

As per the public notification issued by director academics, Farooq Ahmad Peer, the decision will be implemented from the current academic session in Kashmir division including Leh and Kargil districts and winter zone areas of Jammu. In Jammu division, the decision will be implemented from academic session 2019-20.
The class 10th and 11th students who will be declared fail or unqualified in one or more than one subject shall be provisionally allowed to continue their studies in next higher class till the result of the bi-annual examination is declared.

“But, after declaration of the bi-annual result, the provisional admission of all such candidates who are declared fail in one or more subjects shall stand cancelled,” reads the notification.

From the last year, the JKBOSE conducted bi-annual exams soon after the results of regular annual exams for class 10th and 12th are declared. The exams are scheduled within winter months in order to enable students to get admission in next classes, if they qualify the exams.

Director academics said they have done away with the previous practice and candidates who will be declared successful in all the compulsory subjects shall be eligible for regularization of the admission in their next classes.

“The practice is in vogue in other states as well and is linked with the Right to Education scheme. The students who won’t be able to qualify all the five subjects won’t be allowed to continue their studies through BOSE,” he said.
