JAMMU, JUNE 04: Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today called for collective efforts to preserve the rich Dogra culture and heritage of Jammu, for which, he said, the social and Non-Governmental organizations should play their role. “Culture and language are our identity and it is the duty of every one to preserve and promote them”, the Dy CM affirmed.

Addressing the large gathering after inaugurating the musical evening “Gataar Duggar De” organized by Meri Pehchan –a women club at Abhinav Theatre here today, the Dy CM who was the Chief Guest on the occasion asked the younger generation to connect themselves with their culture and tradition.

Legislators Priya Sethi and Rajesh Gupta, Director Radio Jammu, Anjali Sharma, Secretary, JMC, Sunaina Mehta, Prominent Journalist, Suhail Kazmi, Prominent writer, Makhanlal Saraf besides renowned artists and writers were present on the occasion.

Kavinder Gupta said that our state has always been on the forefront when it comes to music, culture and art. However, there is a need to recognize the talent to strengthen the foundations of art and culture of our future generations.

The Dy CM said that the need of the hour is to promote traditional cultural values to keep the younger generation connected with their roots. He further said that the parents should also acquaint their children with the prominent features of Dogra culture.

“Our folk songs and dances are an important part of our rich and varied culture and a sincere effort must be made to preserve them”, the Dy CM maintained.

Hailing the efforts of Meri Pehchan –a women club for organizing the musical extravaganza in association with Bhoorang Foundation, the Dy CM said such programmes touch the hearts and minds of people and will go a long way in reviving our rich culture and ethos.

He congratulated the Chairperson of Meri Pehchan, Sandhya Gupta for her initiatives for promoting singers of Duggar land.

Prominent folk singers mesmerized the audiences to make the evening a memorable one. Ankush Bhasin choreographed the guest cultural dance performance.
