A 19-year-old college girl, who was allegedly gangraped in a tubewell room in a Rewari village on September 12, on Monday identified five of the eight accused in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Anil Kumar here.

“She told the court that Nishu Phogat, Pankaj Fauji, Manish, Naveen alias Nikku and medical practitioner Sanjeev Kumar were present at the crime site,” said victim’s counsel Karan Singh Yadav.

Besides the victim, her father and mother too were examined and cross-examined. “The victim told the court that Sanjeev came to the tubewell room and told the accused: ‘You may do whatever you want. I will destroy all evidence.’ Phogat and the others then forced themselves on her. Later, Sanjeev told them her condition was critical and advised them to drop her somewhere,” Yadav said, adding that Fauji and Manish subsequently left her at the bus stand in Kanina.
Phogat, Fauji and Manish are the key accused in the case. Nikku and Sanjeev face charges under Section 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence) and Section 118 (concealment of crime) of the IPC, respectively.

Deen Dayal, the owner of the tubewell room, has been charged with conspiracy and concealment of the crime. Manish’s relatives Abhishek and Manjeet are on trial for sheltering Fauji and Manish.

The victim reportedly told the court she was on her way to a coaching centre when she was abducted in a car after was given water laced with intoxicants. “She was taken to the tubewell room and raped.”

The case will come up for hearing next on November 19.
