Two motorcyclists died after being hit by a speeding car near Hotel Shagun on the Zirakpur-Panchkula road here late on Monday night.

The victims, identified as Bahadar Singh (29) of Pandwala village in Dera Bassi and Dev Dutt (25) of Dhindan village, Chandimandir, were friends. They were returning from another friend’s marriage in Baltana on a Bullet motorcycle when the bike collided with a car bearing Haryana registration number.
The car overturned due to the impact of the collision. Its driver managed to flee from the spot, leaving the vehicle behind.

According to the police, both the victims sustained serious injuries in the accident. One of them was taken to the Civil Hospital at Dera Bassi while the other was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, Chandigarh. They were declared brought dead at the hospitals.

The police said the victims used to work at a factory in Dera Bassi. “Yesterday, they went to attend a marriage function of their friend. They were returning from the function when the accident occurred,” said the police.

Bahadar Singh is survived by his wife and two daughters while Dev Dutt was unmarried. The police said the car driver was yet to be identified. “The vehicle has been impounded after registration of a case in this regard,” said the police.

Meanwhile, the bodies were handed over to the kin after postmortem examination.
