Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Srinagar, police on Saturday launched a massive crackdown on motorcyclists in the city.

A witness said that the police seized motorcycles despite the riders possessing valid documents.

A police officer said that bikers were being stopped as part of the security exercise. “Bikes are being seized only if the riders fail to produce valid documents,” he said.

A motorcyclist whose bike was seized at Pampore said the police was preventing them from entering the city without any justification. “Scores of bikes, including mine, were seized at Pampore by the police,” said Reyaz Ahmad of Pulwama district.

Security has been heightened in Srinagar a day ahead of PM Modi’s visit to the valley. Traffic police Srinagar has issued an advisory for the motorists.
