A complete shutdown is being observed on Monday in Kangan and Ganderbal towns of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district for the second straight day.

Reports said that all the shops are closed in Kangan, Nunar, Wayil, Dursuma, Manigam, Dudarhama and Beehma and public transport is also off the roads.

However, private vehicles are plying normally on Srinagar-Leh highway passing through Kangan, Lar and Manigam areas.

In Kangan area, the schools are functioning normally, reports said.

The district administration had announced closure of Government Degree College and Government Higher Secondary schools at Ganderbal and Nunar area, as a precautionary measure.

The shutdown is being observed in the district following the killing of M.Tech student-turned-militant Rahil Rashid Sheikh of Nunar.

Reportedly, Rahil had joined Hiz-ul-Mujahiddin militant outfit on April 3 and was killed along with an associate during a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on April 6.
