FIR against 2 Punjab ASIs after Rs 6.66 cr goes ‘missing’ in police raid

Jalandhar, April 13:An FIR against two ASIs was on Saturday lodged with the crime branch of the Punjab Police in Mohali days after Rs 6.66 crore allegedly went missing after the Khanna Police raid on the premises of Father Anthony Madasserry on March 29.

In a report submitted to the Punjab DGP on Friday, Sinha had said the case needed to be investigated in detail. The DGP has reportedly decided to form a new SIT under Sinha, Jalandhar Commissioner of Police, Patiala SSP and Punjab AIG (Crime).A day after the raid, Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya had said that unaccounted Rs 9.66 crore in cash had been recovered from Father Anthony and five others at a naka in Doraha. However, it later emerged that the cash had been recovered from the premises of the Jalandhar priest.

Father Anthony had claimed that he had collected Rs 16.65 crore from the sale of books in school and had called bank staff at his place to count the cash. He had sought a probe into the matter alleging that the police had not shown Rs 6.66 crore, which the bank employees had already counted at his place. On his complaint, a probe was marked to Sinha.
