Diagnosed with first stage cancer at the age of four, Emraan Hashmi‘s only son, Ayaan has been battling with the disease since early 2014. Through a heartfelt post today, the Cheat India producer and lead actor, Emraan broke the happiest news that his 9-year old Ayaan has finally beaten cancer and now completely hale and hearty.

Taking to his social media accounts, Emraan revealed the happy news through a series of pictures. In the first picture, the happy news is evident on the actor’s face as he is seen giving a million dollar smile that reaches his eyes while holding Ayaan’s hand and looking at his son who wore a superhero cape behind his red hoodie and mimicked to fly. The second is a monochrome picture with the father-son duo looking up at the sky. In the last picture, the two are seen twinning in grey T-shirts as Emraan could be seen tickling Ayaan while the little warrior could be seen breaking into a bout of giggles as he held his father forehead against forehead.

Sharing a series of pictures with his son, Emraan wrote, “Today, 5 years after his diagnosis Ayaan has been declared cancer free. It has been quite a journey. Thank you for all your prayers and wishes. Love and prayers for all the cancer fighters out there, hope and belief goes a long way. You can WIN this battle !!! #thekissoflife” (sic).

These were testing times for the actor, quite naturally, as he reportedly questioned himself about where he went wrong when Ayaan was initially diagnosed with the disease. Ayaan, the first child of Emraan and wife Parveen Shahani was born in February 2010 and the news of a tumour in his kidney in 2014 had left the parents shaken.

Emraan then wrote a book, titled The Kiss of Life: How A Superhero and My Son Defeated Cancer, to help raise awareness about the disease and share their story. Expectedly, the book, which was co-authored by Bilal Siddiqi, revolved around his career, family, the birth of his son, cancer and treatment thereafter.
