Chandigarh, August 14: A Mohali resident has been sentenced three years in jail for harassing his neighbour by making obscene gestures at her, police have said.

The accused, identified as Vinod, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Mohali court.

The woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that Vinod had been harassing her by making obscene gestures of flying kisses at her several times.

The woman, who lived with her husband at Phase 11 of Mohali, told police that the accused was her neighbour in the same housing society. The woman alleged that accused Vinod, who stayed in the top-floor flat, would often make indecent comments and gestures at her.

After she told her husband of the harassment, the Mohali couple approached police where a complaint was lodged at the Phase 11 Police Station in Mohali.

Interestingly, the accused also filed a cross-complaint in which he claimed that the couple had beaten him up.

The police, however, found no base in allegations of assault by the accused. The court then gave him three years in jail and a fine of Rs 3,000.
