The deputy inspector general of police (DIG) central Kashmir, V K Birdi on Monday said nothing can be said yet on militant casualties in the gunfight which broke out in Budgam district.

“It is a tough terrain and it is snowing. Nothing was clear yet (on militant casualties),” he told media.

Meanwhile, news agency reported that the firing between militants and government forces at Hapatnar in charar-e-Shareef has stopped.

Quoting sources, it said that the forces have blasted the hideout of the militants in the mountainous area decked with snow.

“So far there are no reports about any militant casualty,” a senior police officer was quoted as having said by the media. “The joint team of government forces is still carrying searches in the area,” the officer added.

The officer said that earlier, a joint team of army’s 53 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation following “credible inputs” about the presence of two to three militants in the hideout.
