Chandigarh, January 14: With an aim to ensuring smooth traffic flow in the city, the UT traffic police are going to start challaning motorists for violation of lane driving, blocking the way of left-turning vehicles and stopping vehicles on the roadside of main carriageways.

A traffic official said they would start action against traffic violators from February 1.

The police said it was being observed that these offences lead to traffic snarls in the city. “These are basic driving rules. However, motorists do not follow these rules, which leads to traffic snarls,” said a police official.

Stopping of vehicle on roadside of main carriageways will be restricted on Madhya Marg, Dakshin Marg and Udyog Path.

The issues regarding enforcement of these traffic rules have also been raised before the police by local residents.

The UT traffic police will also conduct mass awareness drives to make motorists aware of these three violations. The UT police had earlier also placed cones at various intersections and light points to give free way to traffic moving towards left.
