The district administration has said that power supply will be restored in south Kashmir’s Shopian district by today evening.

The area is reeling under darkness since Saturday after snowfall damaged a power transmission tower.

The power supply is yet to be restored in the area despite significant improvement in weather.

Local residents told  that “a few inches of snow have exposed the preparedness of the district administration for winters.”

Another resident complained that the Power Development Department officials were not showing much interest to fix the damaged transmission lines in the area.

However, additional deputy commissioner Shopian Shabir Ahamad said that snow had damaged one of the transmission towers in Kanipora, Ganowpora area.

“The repairing work is being carried out and the electricity would be restored by today evening,” he said.
