Over dozen police, JDA men injured in clash during anti-encroachment drive in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 22 : More than a dozen officials, including policemen and from Jammu Development Authority, on Saturday suffered injuries in a clash that broke out during anti-encroachment drive in this winter capital of the state.

Official sources said that a contingent of police and JDA men this early morning launched an anti-encroachment driver near Nikki Tawi area to remove illegally raised concrete structures by the Gujjars community.

They said that on reaching to the spot, the Gujjars pelted stones at the police team and JDA officials following which a clash took place.

However, as many as 14 people, including Station House Officer and JDA officials, sustained injuries in the incident and they were rushed to the hospital.

However, protesting against the police action, the members of Gujjar community later staged protest and blocked the Fourth Tawi Bridge.

This is not for the first time attempt has been made to remove the encroachment but earlier also, police and JDA teams tried to vacate the state land and returned empty handed.
