UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER 26: A district-level Kissan Mela-cum-Horticulture show was organized by Department of Horticulture Udhampur under Centrally-sponsored Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme at Town Hall Udhampur.
District Development Commissioner Udhampur Ravinder Kumar was the Chief Guest who formally inaugurated the Kissan Mela.
Over 700 orchardists from different corners of the district like Latti, Majouri, Panchari, Majalta, Ghordi, Ramnagar, Udhampur, Tikri etc. participated in the Kissan Mela.
More than 600 entries of different fruits and processed products were displayed in the Mela. The main focus was doubling of farmers’ income by 2022. The participants were made aware about the latest technologies in the field of Horticulture by which they can increase their productivity.
While addressing the farmers, the chief guest lauded the tireless efforts made by Horticulture Department for organizing such events and added that such fairs also provide a platform to the farmers of the far-flung areas to interact with each other.
The DDC said that such type of Kissan Melas will be organized in different remote locations of the district in the near future.
Different allied departments like KVK Reasi, Agriculture, Floriculture, Fisheries, Sericulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Health, RSETI (SBI) etc participated in the event. Private dealers of farm machinery also displayed and demonstrated their latest machineries to the visiting orchardists.
The Chief Horticulture Officer, Udhampur B.V Gupta informed the farmers that department is going to establish two high tech fruit plant nurseries at village Marta and Garh-Pomasta with project cost of Rs 100 lakh each which will cater the high quality fruit plant demand of the district.
