The police have booked six persons, including a notorious gangster Rishi Gurjar, for allegedly murdering a 40-year-old man Sompal, alias Leela (40), of Chulkana village near the Shyam Baba temple in the village in the Samalkha area of the district on Thursday late in the night.

The assailants shot six round of bullets at Sompal due to which he died on the spot. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera installed at the place. DSP Samalkha, along with the police force, is camping in the village due to the incident.

Satbir Singh, uncle of the deceased, told the police in the morning that Sompal used to visit the temple daily as part of his routine.

I was visiting the temple on Thursday night at around 10 pm when I saw two youths, Pradeep and Anil, of Rasoolpur village of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh along with four youths of our village, including notorious criminal Rishi, Sandeep, alias Thakur, Praveen, alias Nath, and Rocky entering the temple with weapons in their hands.

Somvir, a priest in the temple, and my nephew Sompal reached the gate of the temple when the six youths stopped Sompal and Rishi fired at him five-six times, he said.

After firing at Sompal, all assailants managed to escape from the spot on foot.

The reason behind the killing was old enmity, he added.

According to the police, around 25 criminal cases, including that of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, loot and others, are registered against the gangster and his accomplices. He had also been arrested by the SIT in April 2017 along with his accomplices and more than seven weapons were recovered from him.

Villagers, meanwhile, got angry after the murder of Sompal and refused to pick the body at night. However, the police pacified the relatives and villagers and sent it to the mortuary for postmortem in the morning.

The police have started investigating the incident.
