Srinagar, April 6: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president G.A. Mir Saturday said his party was “duty- bound” to protect the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We won’t allow anyone to even touch it,” Mir said while addressing election rallies in YK Pora and Dooru in South Kashmir.
He said the people must remain cautious about the “designs of BJP and RSS and their sponsored people, who are in the fray to divide people in the upcoming elections.”
Mir, who is the party’s candidate from Anantnag Lok Sabha segment, said the party’s victory in the upcoming elections will safeguard the secular fabric and unity in the country and state.
He said elections were the best opportunity for the people to strengthen the secular forces both in the country and state.
He sought votes for Congress to “ensure overall development of the State, besides ensuring that communal and fascist forces are defeated miserably.”
Mir appealed people “to rise to the occasion to defeat the PDP in upcoming elections,” saying the party was “responsible for the damages caused to people in valley especially in south Kashmir.”
He said PDP was fully responsible for the agony, anguish and fear among the people and urged the people to give a befitting reply to this party (PDP) for failing people on all counts.
G.A. Mir reminded the people about the slogans of PDP during 2014 elections which sought votes against BJP, but what happened after the elections, the same PDP aligned with the BJP for the sake of power providing an opportunity to RSS to make inroads in the valley. How can you forget the betrayal and backstabbing on the part of PDP, Mir asked the people.
He assured the people that Congress party will continue to safeguard the special status of the State, Mir added and emphasized the people to give a befitting reply to PDP for misleading them on sensitive issues and playing with their emotions for the votes.
