Markfed district manager Kulwinder Singh was placed under suspension by the department on Friday evening after some women of the department accused him of causing sexual harassment.
These women employees of Markfed submitted a unanimous complaint to the local police. Markfed Director Varun Roojam said Kulwinder had benn suspended and the anti-sexual harassment committee would hold an inquiry.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner SS Srivastava has marked a probe to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Lakhbir Singh and formed a special investigating team. ADCP Lakhbir Singh said they had recorded the statement of the seven women who had jointly filed the complaint. “We have summoned the district manager to record his statement,” he added.
In her complaint to the police, a victim alleged that she alleged that she had gone to the DM’s room regarding leave, but he made sexual advances on her. However, she came out of his cabin. She alleged he also called her on her mobile a few days later.
The victims also approached Manisha Gulati, chairperson, Punjab Woman Commission. She said she would also review the functioning of the anti-harassment committee of Markfed.
District manager Kulwinder refuted the allegations. “Whenever these employees were asked to work or their leave was denied due to extreme pressure of work, they started making baseless allegations,” he claimed.
