PPR Vaccination campaign launched in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL, NOVEMBER 28: Department of Sheep Husbandry Ganderbal today started a massive vaccination drive against PPR “Sheep and Goat Plague” a contagious viral disease affecting sheep and goat in the district under CSS-PPR control programme.

The programme was kick-started by ADDC Ganderbal N A Baba in presence of District Sheep Husbandry Officer and ICDS District Program Officer Ganderbal.

Speaking on the occasion, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr Ab Majeed said that a massive vaccination drive against PPR is being started throughout the district to minimise the incidence of the disease. He underscored the importance of the programme as around 1.49 lakh sheep and goat population in the district provide subsistence to a huge chunk of population associated with sheep and goat rearing in district Ganderbal, which accounts for the economic prosperity of farmers.

On the occasion, ADDC lauded the efforts of the department to fight this disease found among sheep and goat and hoped that the vaccination campaign will help in preventing the disease.

ADDC distributed vaccination kits among the farmers and urged them to make full use of the opportunity and extend their full cooperation to achieve the target of vaccinating every sheep and goat.

He was informed that the first round of vacation will be completed within a week in which 70 thousand doses will be given at 32 centers throughout the district for which detailed schedule has been worked out.
