Traffic department in action at Shopian. Over 40 vehicles challaned.
Shopian, April 10: Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Shopian, ARTO Shopian along with Traffic police Shopian today swung into action and challaned over 40 vehicles and seized 2 heavy vehicles for violating traffic norms. This was done in order to streamline the traffic menace in Shopian Town. During the drive, an amount of around ₹ 12,000 was also realised as fine from violators.
Speaking on the occassion, DC Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed, said that Shopian town observes heavy rush of vehicles during the day time and district administration has set up all measures to regulate this traffic. He said that several steps have been taken by the district administration in this regard including prohibiting heavy vehicles from entering the town area during day time and frequent challaning of vehicles wrongly parked in the town. He also said that despite several challenges like shortage of staff and narrow roads of Shopian town, the traffic deartment is working very hard in regulating the traffic movement through the town.
