Under the guidance of Dr. Kathirvel S, Assistant professor, Department of Community Medicine, School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Urban Health Training centre, Sector 38, Chandigarh celebrated the intensified diarrhea control fortnight. It was celebrated by Dr. Nitika (Senior Resident, Deptt. of Community Medicine, PGIMER) and Mrs Rupinderjit Kaur (ANM, Deptt. of Community Medicine, PGIMER). Diarrhea is one of the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children. If not treated properly, it can be life threatening. In diarrhea, rehydration with Oral rehydration solution (ORS) is life-saving. In this direction, UHTC organized series of events. The Oral rehydration therapy (ORT) corner was set up in dispensary just in front of registration counter and immunization clinic. The patients attending the OPDs were educated about the importance of ORS and right method of preparing ORS. The entire ORS packet has to be dissolved in one liter of clean water, preferable boiled and cooled down water. It has to be consumed within 24 hours. Any left-over has to be discarded after 24 hours. Along with this, patients were also educated about the importance of hand hygiene. The demonstration of method of preparing ORS and correct handwashing steps was also done in dispensary and Anganwadi. Along with this ORS packets were distributed in houses with under-5 children.
