Jammu: Responding to an appeal by Taranjit Singh Tony, DDC Suchetgarh and senior Congress leader, Jammu Sanskrit School took a humanitarian step by distributing ration kits to around 100 flood-affected families in Kalka Colony, Gorkha Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Bahu areas and other nearby areas.
The relief camp was organized under the leadership of school owner Harpreet Singh Anand, with active participation from the school management, staff, and students. This marks the first school in Jammu to take such an initiative, setting a powerful example of community-driven support during times of crisis.
Notably, Tony personally led and participated in the distribution drive, ensuring that aid reached the most vulnerable families. He interacted with residents, supervised the process, and reaffirmed his commitment to stand by the flood-affected communities.
The camp also witnessed the participation of prominent local figures including Sahil, Chairman of Bawe Bazaar Association; Sham Lal Bassan, former councillor; Darshana Kumari, Gopal Ji, Harvinder Kour, Narinder Sharma, Youth leader and others who extended their support on the ground.
Speaking at the event, Taranjit Singh Tony expressed gratitude and reiterated his appeal for collective action, “I want to sincerely thank the management and staff of Jammu Sanskrit School for taking this noble step. In times like these, sharing is not just a responsibility—it’s a duty. This initiative by the school sets a precedent for other institutions to follow.”
“This is not a one-time gesture. Relief work will continue in phases, and I appeal to more schools, NGOs, and citizens to join us. Whether it is food, clothing, or basic supplies—every contribution can ease someone’s pain. Let’s come together and stand with our fellow citizens in need.”
He also called upon educational institutions across Jammu to take inspiration from Jammu Sanskrit School, saying “This school has shown that education is not just about academics—it’s also about compassion and action. I urge others to follow their example and extend support in whatever way they can.”
As per the organizers, clothing kits will be distributed in the coming two days, with continued efforts to identify and support more affected families. The list was furnished by committee led by Bassan, Harvinder Kour, Gopal Ji , Darshana and Sahil to maintain transparency, and Tony assured that anyone left out will be covered in the next camp.
H S Anand has assured that school will continue the endeavour in future also, where it is needed.
Tony reaffirmed that his office and team remain open and ready to collaborate with any individual or institution willing to support ongoing relief measures.
Sharing is a duty, not just charity: Tony appeals for collective support”
