Poonch May 31 : A 70-year-old man lost his life when he accidentally stepped on a landmine near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Official sources told media that Imam Din son of Kama of Solkah Bagial Dhara was injured critically in the blast and was taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
The sources added that the device exploded when he stepped on the landmine accidentally.
SSP Poonch Rajiv Panday while confirming the incident said that the deceased was shepherding his domestic animals in the area when he stepped on the mine.
The landmines are laid along the LoC to prevent infiltration of militants from across the border and sometimes these get carried away due to rains from their location and accidents result.
