Two days ahead of the second death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani, the Jammu and Kashmir police have detained separatist leader Yasin Malik.
The chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Yasin Malik, was arrested from his residence on Friday morning.
Malik along with Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had called for a Kashmir-shutdown and a public meeting at Burhan Wani’s native Tral area on July 8.
Burhan Wani, the commander of Kashmir militant group Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in an encounter with the security forces on July 8 2016.
His death had triggered an uprising in the valley in 2016 after which Kashmir was under curfew for over a month.
The violence that had killed and injured locals and security personnel is described as the worst unrest in the region since 2010 Kashmir unrest.
