JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 08: A two-week Induction Programme for B.E first year students concluded today here at Government College for Engineering and Technology.
The mandatory Induction Programme is a part of TEQIP-III (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Phase-III), a Govt. of India initiative under the aegis of Ministry of HRD and AICTE.
Students at GCET were initiated into this programme by the Induction Programme Coordinators, Dr. Rajinder Gupta and Dr. Anita Brar by familiarizing them with the model curriculum, registering them as students, followed by visit to laboratories and various departments in small groups accompanied by the faculty and the mentors.
The initial phase of programme was followed by lectures and inter-active sessions by experts and eminent faculty drawn from reputed Institutes like IIT Jammu, University of Jammu & UIET, Chandigarh.
The aim was to explore their academic interests and motivate them to work for excellence, promote bonding among themselves and build character to meet the future challenges of life. Several apprehensions and doubts raised by the students during interactive sessions were answered by the experts to the large satisfaction of students. The relevance of basic sciences in Engineering Courses was clearly settled by the faculty members from UIET, Chandigarh and Dr. K.S Charak (Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu), Dr. Anil Raina (Department of EVS, University of Jammu) and so was the art of speaking well distinguished from the art of communication by Dr. Veena Rani (GCET) and Dr. Nancy Handoo, (Former Associate Professor or NIT, Srinagar), Dr. D.N. Sharma (GCET) and Ms. Ishita from IIT Jammu. A session by Dr. T.R Raina (Ex-HoD, Blood Bank, GMC, Jammu) on “Holistic Health Science of Stress and its Management through Yoga” highlighted the relevance of yoga in stress busting and leading a healthy life. This was supplemented by a session on Art of living by Ms. Mamta and role of Music and Laughter Therapy in rejuvenating energies by Er. Neeraj Dubey, Assistant Professor of GCET.
A sports session was organized at the campus and motivational documentaries were also screened for the students.
The programme concluded with video presentation on the induction courses, followed by a plantation drive initiated by Dr. Sameru Sharma, Principal, GCET in the presence of students, faculty and staff members of the Institution.
The Principal appreciated her team members for their efforts to make this induction programme a success and suggested that the same trend should be set for other institutions to follow.
