Palampur: MP Shanta Kumar on Friday said the Railways had not shelved the Kangra broad gauge rail line project and that it was under consideration. He said the Central government had assured him of completing its survey soon.

The MP, while addressing mediapersons, clarified that Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had only stated that the existing narrow gauge would be maintained as a heritage asset by the Railways.

He was not properly briefed by the railway authorities that there was a proposal for a new broad gauge rail line from Pathankot to Jogindernagar with a different alignment connecting Dharmshala, Palampur and Mandi with Bilaspur-Mandi-Manali-Leh rail line project. Hereleased a copy of the letter written by Dr Arvind Gupta, Deputy National Security Adviser and Secretary, NSCS, stating that the existing Pathankot-Jogindernagar rail line would be linked with Bilaspur-Mandi-Manali-Leh rail line.
