Baramulla, Sep 12: The mobile internet service and class work in Government Degree College (GDC) and Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) remained suspended for the second day on Wednesday as a precautionary measure in Handwara in Kupwara, where two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter early on Tuesday morning.
Business and other activities were affected due to strike at Langate as one of the militant killed in the encounter belongs to that area.
The district administration had directed all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to suspend mobile internet service as a precautionary measure yesterday to prevent the spread of any rumours following the killing of two militants. Mobile internet service remained suspended, official sources said.
The administration has also ordered suspension of class work in GDC Handwara and all Higher Secondary Schools of Mawar and Langate zones as a precautionary measure for the second day on Wednesday.
However, schools were functioning normally.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads at Langate and nearby areas in Kupwara. However, situation elsewhere in the district was normal.
Troops of 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 92 batallion CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police in a joint operation at Galoora area of Langate Hanwara killed by two militants. The slain militants were identified as Furqan Rashid Lone allies Adil and Liyaqat Ahmad Lone allies Umar Khalid of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT), were killed in the exchange of fire. “Furqan was a resident of Shartpora, Langate while Liyaqat, a resident of Harwan, Sopore.
