Handwara, Langate shut for third straight day against militant killing

Shutdown is being observed for third consecutive day in Handwara and Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district over the killing of a local militant on Tuesday.

All shops and other business establishments are closed in the area. However, traffic plied on the roads.

Two militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in a gunfight at Galoora area of Handwara on Tuesday.

One of the slain, Furkan Ahmad (18) was a resident of Langate area of the frontier district.

Thousands of people participated in his last rites.

Another slain militant, Liyaqat Ahmad Lone, was a resident of Sopore area of Baramulla district.
