Claiming to have made some headway in the Rewari gangrape case, the Haryana Police today released the pictures of the three accused — Manish, Nishu and Pankaj, who is in the Army. Also, an SIT headed by Mewat SP Naazneen Bhasin announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information leading to their arrest.
Sources claimed Army man Pankaj had been traced to Kota, Rajasthan, and the police were on their way to nab him. “We have spoken to the Army authorities,” said state DGP BS Sandhu.
Lt Gen Cherish Mathson, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Command, said the Army would provide all assistance in the arrest of the accused.
On September 12, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly drugged and gangraped. The resident of Kosli, Rewari, was returning from a coaching centre in Mahendragarh when she was offered water by two persons at the local bus stand, following which she lost consciousness.
The victim’s father said he suspected that more persons may have been involved in the crime. “We have received threats to withdraw our complaint. We need police protection,” he implored. “It took 24 hours for the police to register an FIR as the police cited jurisdiction issues. We kept shuttling between Rewari and Kanina. My daughter’s statement was recorded though she could barely utter a few words,” he alleged. The DGP said they were probing if there had been any lapses.
Meanwhile, Haryana State Commission for Women chairperson Pratibha Suman spoke to the victim in hospital. “I studied hard and was prepared to travel long distances for good education and coaching, and this destroyed me,” she sobbed incessantly.
Joblessness to blame: Haryana BJP MLA
Even as Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Capt Ajay Singh Yadav demanded the CM’s resignation for the rising crime against women, BJP MLA Premlata from Uchana Kalan blamed it on unemployment. “Youths who do not have employment get frustrated and commit such (rapes) crimes,” she claimed, attracting severe criticism.
