The Nabha police nabbed an Army man with 2.6-kg opium on the Dera Beas Ashram road on Monday night.
The accused has been identified as Naik Rajesh Kumar (35), a native of Bhojasar village falling under Mandwa police station in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district.
Davinder Atri, DSP, said Kumar was posted in Patiala in 2016. During checking of vehicles, the police recovered opium hidden in his Scooty’s dicky.
Atri said the accused revealed that he had brought the contraband from Jodhpur for Rs 90,000. However, it is not yet known to whom the opium was to be supplied.
A case under Sections 18, 62 and 85 of the NDPS Act had been registered against the accused. He was produced in a court, which remanded him in one-day police custody.
Meanwhile, a senior Army officer said on the condition of anonymity that Kumar was scheduled to retire in 20 days.
