Inaugurates sanitary napkin manufacturing unit at R S Pura

JAMMU, MAY 26: Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta today said that the State government has flagged women’s welfare as a priority as it is keen to see them empowered and progressing in all walks of life.

Kavinder Gupta was addressing a huge gathering of workers and local women after inaugurating a manufacturing unit of sanitary napkins “Stree Swabhiman” here at R.S Pura.

The unit is a CSC initiative for promoting women’s health and hygiene.

Welcoming the new venture in R S Pura, Dy CM said that the empowerment of women is imperative for the development of any society and the government is committed to facilitate women in improving their living standards. He hoped more such units would be set up to make available affordable sanitary pads and promote better menstrual hygiene among women.

He further said that the product will be affordable to rural women and it will help them discard their traditional method of using unhygienic cloth. Minister accentuated that educated youth should come forward and took benefits of the schemes and programmes initiated by government. “Especially, unemployed youth can take the benefits of government sponsored schemes like PMEGP, CMEGP, Udaan and many more alike” he said.

Meanwhile, the Dy. CM also distributed schools bags, books, water bottles and other stationary among the students of Government Middle School Senarki, District Samba. He said that government is committed to provide free education to the needy children especially girl child.

Earlier, he also inaugurated newly constructed two ACR buildings at Government Boys Middle School Gorakh Nagar completed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.27 lakh and a toilet complex constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission and completed at an estimated cost of 13 lakh.
