The Supreme Court on Wednesday said Aadhaar is a unique identification and it is better to be unique than being best.
Justice AK Sikri pronounced the judgment on Aadhaar for himself, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justice AM Khanwilkar.
The apex court said the attack on Aadhaar by petitioners is based on violation of rights, and would lead to a surveillance state.
The court said there had been minimal demographic and biometric data collected by UIDAI for Aadhaar enrolment. It said the unique identification proof also empowered and gave identity to marginalised sections of society. PTI
