Drug addict slits vocal cord of 6-month-old daughter after fight with wife

Lucknow, November 26: A drug addict in his twenties, Sajjad, slit the throat of his six-month-old daughter after a quarrel with his wife in Thakuran mohalla under Bilari police station in Moradabd on Sunday evening.

According to Bilari Circle officer Randhir Singh, the six-month-old infant Aaya Noor was rushed to the district hospital from where she has been referred to the Tirthankar Medical College hospital on Delhi road.

“The doctors say that her vocal cord had been damaged and she may not be able to speak,” said the CO who said that besides the throat a number of fingers of the six-month-old infant had also been slashed.

Singh said that the man a daily wager was a drug addict and regularly fought with his wife for money also indulging in violence.

On Sunday, after overhearing from a neighbour about the reported affair of his wife with a neighbour Mehdi Hasan alias Dumpy and he being the biological father of the infant. In a fit of anger, he set the house on fire.

His wife had hid the child in a neighbour’s house for safety from where he fetched the baby and attacked her with a kitchen knife in a fit of anger.

The police have arrested Sajjad under Sections 307 and 436 of the IPC. Dumpy has also been named in the FIR.
