SPO shot at in Pulwama, blast like sound creates panic in Kakapora

Srinagar, May 29: A special police officer (SPO) was injured critically after fired upon by militants at Puchal area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening.

Official sources told media that the gunmen fired upon the SPO, Aqib Wagay son of Abdul Ahad Wagay at Puchal village this evening.

In the incident, Wagay, a resident of Panzagam Awantipora, suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital,” they said.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary confirmed the incident to.

“Wagay was shot at by the suspected militants. He was working as an SPO in Railway police Awantipora,” SSP said.

He said that a case has been registered and further investigations were taken up.

Soon after the incident, Army, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the suspected militants.

Meanwhile, a loud blast like sound heard near police station Kakapora in southern district.

The SSP said that a loud blast like sound has been heard near Police station Kakapora. Information is preliminary in nature.

“We are verifying the incident”.

The blast created panic in the area.
