A three-day State-Level Capacity Building Workshop for Tuberculosis (TB) Survivors was organized from 6 to 8 January 2026 at Mango Groves Hotel, Chandigarh, by World Health Partners (WHP) in collaboration with government of Punjab and Haryana.
The workshop brought together TB survivors from Haryana and Punjab to strengthen their role as TB Champions in creating community awareness, supporting treatment adherence, promoting early detection, and reducing stigma, with special focus on pediatric TB. Total 35 TB survivors participated in this training covering high loaded Districts named Mewat, Hisar, Mohali and Hoshiarpur.
Inaugurating the workshop, Mr. Akhilesh Sharma, State Director, WHP, emphasized the crucial role of TB survivors in motivating patients and improving treatment outcomes through peer support.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Rajesh Raju, State TB Officer, Haryana, highlighted the importance of TB survivors as role models and assured full state support towards achieving a TB-Free Haryana.
Technical sessions were conducted by WHO Consultants Dr. Kamesh and Dr. Sukhwant, who briefed participants on TB basics, diagnosis, and free treatment services under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). The sessions also emphasized psychosocial support to help TB Champions provide emotional and peer support to patients and caregivers. Mentoring was provided by Dr. Ekta Bhagat (State Technical Manager, Haryana) and Dr. Satish Pundir (State Technical Manager, Punjab) from World Health Partners.
