A three-year-old girl, who had fallen into a borewell at Mungiachak locality of Munger district in Bihar, was rescued after 29 hours on Wednesday.
After her rescue, Sanno was rushed to Munger Sadar Hospital with her parents in an ambulance. She was being treated under the expert medical supervision at intensive care unit of the hospital.
The girl had fallen on Tuesday into a 160- ft borewell dug inside a courtyard of a house to get drinking water. She was stuck at 43 ft. Soon after the information was flashed, a rescue operation was kicked off by teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The rescue teams took all measures for the safety of the trapped baby. Oxygen was continuously supplied through a pipe inside the borewell and all her activities were monitored with CCTV camera. Her mother was allowed to call her at borewell to psychologically boost her.
Munger sub-divisional magistrate Khagesh Chandra Jha said: “With experts of NDRF, SDRF and army jawans, the three-year-old girl was rescued. All safety measures were taken up when the operation was under way. The activities of the child were also being monitored by doctors with A CCTV camera, and oxygen was continuously being supplied with a pipe.”
The rescue team vertically dug up earth 45 ft parallel to the borewell and made way horizontally to the borewell. They also made arrangement inside the borewell so that further fall could be avoided.
“In spite of sporadic rain and humidity, the rescue teams worked continuously. Locals also tried their traditional method by boring rope to take the baby out but they failed,” said Mukesh Kumar, a neighbour of the girl, adding that she had come to her maternal grandparents. She had fallen into the borewell around 4 pm on Tuesday and was rescued at 8.45 pm on Wednesday.
