A 28-year-old girl, who had gone for a morning walk at Fragrance Garden in Sector 36, was molested by an unknown person during the wee hours of Sunday. The victim saved herself by kicking the accused, who managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of the darkness.
Sources said the incident took place around 4.30 am when the victim had gone to Fragrance Garden for a walk.
Police sources said the victim was walking on the track when a person caught hold of her from the rear side. “The accused caught the victim tightly and tried to push her out of the track apparently to take her towards the corner,” said a police official.
Sources said the victim, however, did not panic and immediately retaliated. She kicked the accused, who then left the victim and moved back. By the time the victim turned back, the accused had escaped from the spot. Since it was dark, the victim could not see the accused.
The incident happened close to the entry gate of the garden facing towards Sector 23.
The victim informed the police after which several police teams rushed to the spot. The police launched a hunt in the area. However, by then, the accused had escaped.
A police official said there were no CCTV cameras near the entry to the park.
The sources said since the victim did not see the accused, she could not provide a description about him.
Acting on her complaint, a case of attempt to rape has been registered against an unknown person at the Sector 36 police station.
The sources said it seemed the accused had come for a morning walk and on finding the victim alone on the track, he committed the crime.
