Over 400 Institutions Covered in District-Level Training on Student Mental Health as per Supreme Court Directions

In compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Suo Motu Writ Petition (C) No. 5 of 2005 and in implementation of the directions passed in SLP (Crl.) No. 6378 of 2024 titled Sukdeb Saha vs State of Andhra Pradesh & Others, concerning the mental health and well-being of students, a meeting-cum-training and awareness programme was organized at Banihal.

 

The programme marked the second day of the said training initiative, during which more than 400 educational institutions participated collectively over two days. The first day of the training programme was earlier held at Model Higher Secondary School (MHSS), Ramban, while the second day was conducted at Banihal.

 

The programme was organized under the directions of the District Administration Ramban and conducted under the overall supervision of the Chief Education Officer, Ramban, Mr. M. S. Khan. Heads of Institutions (HoIs) from Government and Private Higher Secondary Schools, High Schools, and Middle Schools actively participated in the session.

 

The meeting was attended by Tehsil-level officers of Banihal, along with representatives from the Health and Medical Education Department, Animal Husbandry Department, Social Welfare Department, and the Municipal Committee Banihal.

 

During the session, Dr. Adil from the Animal Husbandry Department, Banihal, briefed the participants on issues related to stray dogs in light of the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. A doctor from the Sub-District Hospital, Banihal, emphasized the importance of student mental health, explained precautionary measures, and sensitized HoIs about preventive and responsive protocols. The representative of the Municipal Committee Banihal, Executive Officer Mr. Ishaan Chopra, elaborated on the role of the department, while the Social Welfare Department representative highlighted various student welfare measures.

 

An interactive question-and-answer session was also held, enabling Heads of Institutions to raise their concerns, which were duly addressed by the concerned subject experts.

 

The District Nodal Officer, Mr. Gulzabir Daing, welcomed all guests and participants on behalf of the District Administration Ramban and expressed hope that the training programme would significantly contribute to the overall development and well-being of students and educational institutions. He thanked all officers and Heads of Institutions for their cooperation and timely response. He also expressed gratitude to the District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Mr. Mohd Alyas Khan, and the Chief Education Officer, Ramban, Mr. M. S. Khan, for their continued support and employee-friendly approach.

 

In the concluding session, the Principal, Model Higher Secondary School, Banihal, Mr. Abdul Rashid Giri, who also served as the host of the programme, presented the vote of thanks, highlighting the key takeaways of the training and underlining the importance of such initiatives for the holistic development of the education sector.
