Aligarh mishap: Magistrate orders probe

Aligarh District Magistrate has ordered a probe into an accident on Tuesday evening in which alteast 12 people were killed while 24 others injured in a head on collision of two buses near Madrak toll plaza area on NH-93.

Police said that the accident occurred during overtaking at Khuni Kothiya and heavy rainfall.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Sahani said that FIRs have been registered against the owners of both the buses and technical probe has been ordered and their permits being checked.

Among the deceased are five teachers,who were returning to Aligarh after attending a teachers day function.
While one bus was carrying a marriage party, another was a passenger bus. The deceased included an eight month infant.

Those identified were Pawan(45), Anjali(30), Kamini Upadhaya(25), Geeta(26), Monika(30), Sadhna(29), Somesh(40) Malkhan(30), Abdul Wahid(50), Kartik(8 month), two are yet to be unidentified.

Out of the 24 injured, 10 are in critical condition, sources said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased family and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
