The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd (KSIC) has organized a sale on August 15 (Independence Day) and August 24 (Varamahalakshmi) wherein Mysore Silk Sarees will be sold on discount.

But one needs Aadhaar Card to purchase these. The corporation said this is done to keep middlemen at bay and ensure that people reap the benefits of this scheme.

The state Tourism and Sericulture Minister, Sa Ra Mahesh, said sale is for women who love Mysore Silk Sarees but can’t afford it due to high price.

Today, sarees worth Rs. 7,000 will be sold at Rs. 4,000 and on Varamahalakshmi, sarees worth Rs. 15,000 will be sold at Rs. 4,000.

But customers will have to show Aadhaar to ensure the scheme isn’t misused.

Showing Aadhaar card means that the same customer will not be able to purchase sarees from a similar sale for the next five years.

However, Mahesh added they can’t track sarees when they are re-sold.

He further revealed they would have to incur losses, because of the scheme. But the minister said they are bearing it to reach out to beneficiaries.
