IAS officers removed from posts after CBI books them in UP mining scam

Lucknow, July 11:Three IAS officers— who are allegedly involved in the Uttar Pradesh illegal mining scam —were removed from their posts late on Wednesday night based on directions from Chief Minister Adityanath. 

The officials have been put on a “waiting list” in respect to future postings.

Bulandshahr District Magistrate Abhay Singh, Azamgarh Chief Development Officer Devi Sharan Upadhyay and director of the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission, Vivek have been removed from their posts. 

CBI raided the residences of these officials on Wednesday. 

The CBI has also filed two fresh FIRs in the scam naming former Samajwadi party minister Gayatri Prajapati and four IAS officers.

The fourth IAS officer—Jiwesh Nandan— was then the principal secretary (geology and mining) is now on deputation to the Central government.

At the time of the scam Singh and Vivek were the district magistrates of Fatehpur and Deoria respectively. Upadhyay was the additional district magistrate of Deoria at the time.

The charge against them is renewing mining leases to benefit certain individuals in violation of the e-tendering policy of the state government.

The CBI also conducted searches at 12 locations in UP, including Bulandshahr, Lucknow, Fatehpur, Azamgarh, Allahabad, Noida, Gorakhpur, and Deoria on Wednesday.
