Strong tremors were felt across Northeast India and in West Bengal. It was not immediately known where the epicentre of the earthquake was but reports indicate it was in Assam. The initial magnitude reported was 5.4 on the Richter Scale. Tremors were felt in parts of Bangladesh as well. More details are awaited.
Earlier Wednesday, light tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir as well as in Haryana. An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred at 5.43 am in Jhajjar, Haryana while an earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter Scale occurred at 5.15 am in Jammu and Kashmir.
