‘Ensure smooth water supply in Ramadan month’

SRINAGAR, MAY 09: Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary, today stressed on time-bound completion of all ongoing developmental projects. He also directed the concerned to provide better facilities to the people in the forthcoming holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister gave these directions while chairing a meeting of PHE and I&FC officers here convened to review the physical and financial status of various ongoing projects under execution in Kashmir Division.

Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Superintending Engineers of all districts of Kashmir Division were present on the occasion.

The Minister directed the officers to provide uninterrupted water and other requisite facilities to the people in the holy month of Ramadan so that the people do not face inconvenience.  He also asked them to gear up their men and machinery and ensure punctuality in the field.

Taking stock of the status of the ongoing developmental works in the Valley, the Minister instructed the officers to speed up work on all ongoing projects being executed under different schemes of the department.

The meeting was informed that of 357 schemes worth Rs 1124.15 crore undertaken in PHE sector in Kashmir Valley, 52 schemes involving an amount of Rs 654.14 crore have been completed and commissioned.

Under NBARD, the department has taken up 28 schemes with a cumulative cost of Rs 61.08 crore out of which Rs 29.31 crore stands incurred.

Taking note of the dearth of staff mostly Executive Engineers, AEEs and JEs in district Kupwara, the Minister assured that the adequate staff will be posted shortly in the rural and remote areas for carrying out the activities of the PHE and I& FC Departments smoothly.
