KUPWARA, JULY 16: To curb illegal mining of sandstones from Nallah Mawar, ADC, Handwara Muzaffar Ahmad Peer under the directions of DC Kupwara, Khalid Janangir today visited various spots along the river and seized stone crushers, JCBs, tractors and other heavy machinery.
The machinery was found to be working during odd hours in violation of orders issued by the district administration to contain illegal extraction of sand and stones in and around the Nallah.
Residents of Batgund, ShatgudPayeen, Tulwari, Langate and Pohrupeth area of Handwara lauded the efforts of district administration for timely intervention and action against offenders for damaging the ecology of the Nallah.
ADC Handwara said that the administration has initiated action under rules against illegal extractors and seized machinery on spot, deployed illegally.
Meanwhile, DC Kupwara directed the concerned departments to remain vigilant, pay surprise visits and communicate on regular basis any violation of orders against illegal extraction of sand and stones from Nallah Mawer.
