Chandigarh, Sep 20 (PTI) The Congress on Thursday sought immediate intervention of Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya on “increasing atrocities and rape incidents” in Haryana and said the state has become the crime capital.
A Haryana Congress delegation led by state party chief Ashok Tanwar presented a memoranda to Arya here.
Attacking the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government, Tanwar said law and order in Haryana has totally collapsed.
“During the last year over 1,500 rape cases were reported in Haryana, it means three such incidents a day. This is a very grim situation,” he told reporters here.
He said though senior police officers are transferred, nothing worthwhile is being done for the security of girls and women.
Tanwar claimed that the women police stations had not started working effectively in the last three years.
Incidents of rape and gang rape are being reported from all corners of the state but the Khattar government is sleeping, he said.
“It looks like Haryana has become the crime capital,” he said.
The Congress leader said there are about 2.5 lakh millet farmers in Haryana but a software of the Haryana government for their registration showed only 40,000.
“It shows that the BJP-led state government is going to commit a scam of one thousand crore rupees in the purchase of millet,” Tanwar alleged.
The Congress delegation also handed over a memorandum to Arya for President Ram Nath Kovind, asking for an inquiry into the alleged Rafale fighter jets deal scam.
Tanwar said in the memorandum the party requested Kovind that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman appear before a Joint Parliamentary Committee and all records of the Rafale deal be examined to expose the scam.
The memorandum requested Kovind to intervene immediately to affix the responsibility of the prime minister and other public and private persons in the Rafale scam.
Tanwar said the country had incurred a huge loss because Modi unilaterally decided to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets by “ignoring all principles and without inviting any tenders”.
He said the Indian Air Force requires 126 operational fighter planes but the Modi government has endangered the country’s security by purchasing only 36.
