Chairman LC conducts extensive tour of Zanskar

KARGIL, JULY 23: Chairman, J&K Legislative Council, Hajji Anayat Ali today visited various areas in Zanskar Tehsil to get first-hand appraisal of the problems and grievances of the people there, besides reviewing the developmental scenario.

The villages visited by the Chairman included Padum, Doksang, Shagar, Togtha, Atting, Phey, Manda, Skagam, Khushul, Abran, Aksho, and Karsha.

At Padum, the Chairman asked the concerned to prepare estimates under Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the construction of boundary wall near Old Mosque Padum.

The Chairman directed the concerned to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) for construction of a footbridge over Stod river at Phey Village and submit the same to the concerned quarters for accord of necessary sanction.

He also asked the Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA) to conduct a survey of the Tehsil and prepare plans for Solar Light Projects for those areas that have not been provided solar light facilities so far.

Referring to the developmental works under execution in the Tehsil Zanskar, the Chairman said that the construction work of laying of OFC is apace in the area and various places have already been identified for construction of Mobile Towers. He said the concerned have already been directed to speed up the pace of work and complete the construction work of towers as soon as possible. He said that next year people will experience good mobile facilities in the area.

Haji Anayat said that up-gradation and construction of Pani Khar-Zanskar road has been sanctioned and is expected to be completed within two years. He said that the DPRs for several other link roads have also been prepared and submitted to the Government for accord of necessary approval. He said that these road projects will change the socio-economic condition of the people of the area.

The Chairman also visited various Gonpas included Stakrimo and Zungkhul in the Tehsil and interacted with the Head’s of the Lamas and Chomos there.

The Heads of the Gonpa’s projected various demands including construction of link roads, providing of adequate drinking water facilities, installation of solar lights, toilet facilities, Gensets and mobile facilities.

The Chairman gave them patient hearing and assured them that their genuine demands would be taken up with the concerned quarter for early redressal. In some cases, Haji Anayat on-the-spot directed the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zanskar to solve important public interest issues on priority.

Interacting with the Heads of the Gonpa’s, the Chairman praised the existence of exemplary communal harmony among people of different religions in Zanskar Tehsil.

Sub Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar Rakesh Sharma, Assistant Director Information, Abdul Ahad Bhat, senior officers of various departments including KREDA, R & B, President Zanskar Buddhist Association accompanied the Chairman during his tour.
