Srinagar, Jan 5: Train service was suspended in the Kashmir valley on Saturday due to heavy snowfall on tracks, official sources said.
Train service was suspended on Friday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama on Thursday.
Trains were running normally as per schedule in north Kashmir on Friday.
They said train service has been suspended in the valley today as tracks are under one to two feet of snow and it was still snowing. Therefore, they said, no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir with Banihal in Jammu region for the second day today. Yesterday, an advisory was received to suspend train service in south Kashmir for security reasons. There was apprehension of trouble after three militants were killed in encounter on Thursday in Pulwama.
No train will also chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir today. However, trains were running normally yesterday on this track.
Train service will be resumed only after the weather improves and snow on the tracks is cleared, they said.
