Srinagar,May 8: Scores of traders and transporters on Wednesday staged a protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag in south Kashmir against the imposition of toll tax by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Traders affiliated with All Traders and Manufacturers Association Anantnag and transporters from Sumo Stand Union Janglatmandi, Bus and Matador Associations submitted a joint memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag demanding an immediate rollback of the decision to levy toll tax, reported news agency.

The protesters said that the exemption of the tax from the people living within 20 kilometers radius was futile and all people from Jammu and Kashmir should be excluded from the purview of toll imposition.

The toll is being collected by the NHAI at the toll Post Kachkoot Fee Plaza in Sangam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
