Jammu, Jan 16: Against the backdrop of increased ceasefire violation incidents along the Line of Control, former National Conference MLC Shahnaz Ganai on Tuesday batted for friendly Indo-Pak relations in the interest of the border residents.

“Friendly ties between both the neighbouring countries is the only way out to restore calm on the borders, which will be in the interest and betterment of the people living close to the Line of Control,” Ms Ganai here told media.

Ms Ganai was NC’s MLC from bordering Poonch district.

“Unless the peace will not prevail and harmony will not exist between two countries, the incidents of ceasefire violations will not stop and the border people will keep suffering,” she added and appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend a hand of ‘Dosti’ towards Pakistan, so that people in the bordering belts, live a peaceful life.

“Border residents are facing hardships and many of them have to cross the gates near the fence to reach their homes,” she said and added that a lot of hue and cry was made by the Government of India over construction of community bunkers but, unfortunately, the work on ground is zero.

“How it is possible for number of families to take shelter in a single bunker at the time of ceasefire violations,” she said and added that there is not even proper government infrastructure in Poonch district to rehabilitate cross border firing affected victims.

“Poonch district is still deprived of community bunkers as in many Panchayats, not even single bunker is constructed,” she claimed and added that people are living under fear psychosis especially the children.

She however, added that solution to this crisis only lies in cordial and friendly ties between India and Pakistan and nothing less than that can restore peace of borders.
