A 53-year-old fashion designer and her security guard were found dead at her Vasant Kunj enclave residence late Wednesday night. Police have detained three employees of the deceased and the preliminary investigation has revealed that they killed her for not getting salary on time. Sources said the trio killed her with a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed her around 10 times.

Police said the deceased was identified as Mala Lakhani and her security guard as Bahadur Singh (42). “The incident came to light after the locals found that the entrance door of her house was ajar at A-82, Vasant Kunj Enclave and the security guard was missing from his seat. They informed the police about the incident at around 3 am and police rushed to the spot. After reaching there, police found their bodies, lying in a pool of blood and house was ransacked,” a senior police officer said.

Police said, “The main accused Rahul Anwar, working as the master tailor at Lakhani’s shop, has been arrested. They themselves walked to the police station and confessed their crime. The incident took place between 10pm-12am. Robbery is the motive behind the murder and a Hyundai car has also been recovered. They bought the knife a few days ago from the market. They called mala on the pretext of showing a piece of cloth.” Anwar was earlier arrested on the charges of molesting a minor girl in 2017.

Police later called the FSL team to lift the fingerprints and other evidence from the spot. Later, they approached her relatives and came to know that she was running her boutique in Green Park area. “She was running a small office from her home where three tailors were working with her. One of them was working with her for the last four years. During questioning so far, they all have claimed before the police that she was not giving their salary to them following that they decided to rob her and kill her, but police are verifying the facts to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder,” police said.

DCP (south-west) Devendra Arya said they have registered an FIR of murder and detained three persons. “We have sent their bodies for postmortem examination to AIIMS,” he added.
