New Delhi, April 23: Celebrity boxer Vijender Singh, who today resigned as DSP in the Haryana Police, was declared the Congress candidate from South Delhi seat.

The resignation of the boxer, who won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has been accepted. The Congress had earlier mulled allotting the South Delhi ticket to a wrestler from Haryana, but he reportedly turned down the offer. Vijender, who belongs to Kaluwas village in Bhiwani, is believed to be close to former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. A youth icon, Vijender is expected to give a good fight to his rivals.
